The Kleborate software detects presence and subtype of the hypervirulence-associated rmpADC locus in Klebsiella pneumoniae and related species. Our new paper in Genome Medicine provides an overview of the evolution, diversity and distribution of the rmpADC locus in Klebsiella pneumoniae, and shows that all variants are able to induce enhanced capsule production and hypermucoviscosity. This adds to our understanding of hypermucoidy mechanisms and evolution, and provides data to support the interpretation of Kleborate genotyping results.
